About Us
Our mission at ACAP is to empower individuals, families
and organizations by helping develop practical, successful life strategies..jpg)
The Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis was formed in 1980 to bring the Greater New Jersey-New York area a unique opportunity to learn contemporary clinical application, theory, methods of research and training in Modern Psychoanalysis.
Our purpose has been multifold:
- To train psychoanalysts,
- to develop as a community resource, applying modern psychoanalytic expertise with interpersonal relationships, group and organizational development, education, crisis resolution, and resource partnering, by designing training programs and seminars for institutions, organizations and individuals working with some of our communities' most challenged members.
- to offer continuing education to all interested in learning about human motivation, interpersonal relationships, parenting and education issues; and
- to provide a facility for quality outpatient, comprehensive mental health treatment at affordable fees, without regard
to insurance or managed care issues.

Our work in Applied Psychoanalysis often focuses on those most fragile and neglected, working to help them become self-sufficient, productive community members, leading lives that are more satisfying.
Our Academy is comprised of three divisions:
- The Academic Programs -- This branch includes our nationally accredited, postgraduate Psychoanalytic Certificate Program and our One Year Program in Modern Psychoanalysis.
- The Applied Division -- A major component in our unique identity, this branch is composed of our programs, seminars, partnering, community work, conferences and other outreach programs. (Please click here to find out more about our Applied Division.)
- The North Jersey Consultation Center -- NJCC is ACAP's clinical arm, our mental health treatment service, where individuals and families of any age or diagnosis can receive expert care for as long as needed and at affordable fees. North Jersey Consultation Center.
