Trauma and Resilience Studies Certificate:
Explores the relationship between trauma and human development, preparing the professional to support trauma recovery and resilience on personal, local and global levels.

ACAP's Trauma and Resilience Studies program uniquely benefits a wide variety of individuals, including those in mental health, academia, emergency services, medicine, nursing, law enforcement, and education, seeking to understand how trauma and human development coexist in our adaptation to life crises and as potential foundations for resilience. The program examines how individuals and groups respond to a range of trauma: from developmental challenges, to overwhelming exp eriences involving social, economic and interpersonal events, to natural disasters, terrorism, and war. It presents models for resilience building in the face of such experiences, and proactive methods for coping when crisis occurs.

The full Trauma and Resilience Studies (TRS) Program is scheduled to launch in Spring 2012, call ACAP to inquire which current courses already integrate TRS and will be part of the new program.

Mini-Courses:

An Introduction to Modern Psychoanalysis -- a 7 session course

What exactly is Modern Psychoanalysis?  It may not be what you think!
This course will introduce social workers and other licensed/certified mental health practitioners at intermediate and advanced levels to the theory and practice of Modern Psychoanalysis and compare and contrast it to the model developed by Freud. It is a method based on emotional communication, induction and the clinician's own reactions to clients' dynamics.

Modern Psychoanalysis is a treatment approach that supports the ego with strategies that improve client compliance to treatment goals. Originally developed to treat extremely regressed patients, it has been successfully adapted and applied to a wide range of disorders and settings.Grant-Vaccaro 8-25-2011 web.jpg

This multidisciplinary Program is designed to enrich the work of clinicians and those interested in enhancing their work in education, the arts, humanities, religion, and business to the theory and practice of Modern Psychoanalysis by introducing participants to a method of applying modern psychoanalytic principles, theories, and techniques to life and work. Case material emphasizes the application of theory to create an informed approach in a variety of settings and populations. Both experiential process and more traditional teaching methods are used to promote learning.  This advanced learning model is interactive and often immediately applicable.
