Student Information

Students matriculating in the Certificate Program are expected to be in analysis with a modern analyst acceptable to the ACAP Training Committee, and at a frequency decided by the student and therapist together. Analysis is to begin no later than during the second semester of attendance.

MA students are expected to complete a minimum of 8 sessions of personal analysis with an ACAP approved analyst in each semester of their Externship experience.

There is no personal analysis requirement for those enrolled as continuing education students. Students may take courses on a continuing education basis as well as attend workshops prior to beginning a personal analysis.

Logs. Students are encouraged to integrate and express their thoughts and feelings about class readings and dynamics by preparing written logs for each session, to be handed in before the next class meeting. Logs are also required for any missed classes. Logs, preferably typed, are to be submitted on 5" X 8" cards, one card per log, or by email with the instructors' permission. At the top of each log is the following information: Student’s Name, Teacher's Name, Course, and Date of Class for which the log was prepared.

Grades. ACAP uses the grading system of Pass or No Credit. Students who attend at least 12 of 15 course sessions, participate in class discussions, and turn in Logs and Papers at the appropriate times will receive a Pass for the course. MA students meeting course requirements will be given a letter grade that will be transmitted to Centenary College administration.

Library. A library of psychoanalytic texts, bibliographic materials and journals is available at ACAP. The PEP database, that includes all articles through 2000 in major psychoanalytic journals, is available on the library computer. Students may also use the library of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey that is located in Newark and is open to public.

Student Organization. This organization is composed of all students. Scheduled meetings are held at ACAP facilities. The purpose of this organization is to help each student achieve professional and personal goals as student at ACAP.

Advisements. All students registering for courses at ACAP are assigned an academic advisor who will review the student's goals and assist in course selection. Students in the Certificate & Master's programs meet at least once per semester to review students' progress and registration plans. Registration forms must have the Advisor's written approval before registration is complete. Advisors are available to help students throughout their studies at ACAP.

Leave of Absence. Students who do not register for a semester may maintain their enrolled status by requesting a leave of absence indicating the reason in a letter to the ACAP Training committee. Upon payment of the semester registration fee, ($55, $75 for MA Program) students will receive all ACAP mailings.

Note: Following a two-semester leave, an interview may be necessary before readmission.

Financial Arrangement: Registration fees are due at the time of registration. ACAP students who may need to make partial payment of fees should meet with the Administrative Director to set up a payment plan.

For MA students 50% of fees are due upon registration. MA students are eligible to seek student loans: information on the application process is available on the Centenary College website at www.centenarycollege.edu
