Admission Requirements: Master of Arts in Psychoanalytic Counseling

Program Description

The Master of Arts in Psychoanalytic Counseling is a 60 credit program structured to promote student appreciation for the role of the professional psychoanalytic counselor, develop a thorough understanding of the theory and practice of psychoanalytic counseling, including a solid foundation in the knowledge of human mental and emotional functioning and motivation through both classroom and hands-on clinical experience, and acquire mastery of the skills inherent to the program.

This program meets the prerequisites for completion of the National Counselor Examination and the criteria for the New Jersey Counselor Licensure. Classes are held at the ACAP campus in Livingston, NJ.
Upon completion of the Master of Arts in Psychoanalytic Counseling, students are eligible to apply for the certificate level of training in psychoanalysis at ACAP.

Completion of the certificate satisfies the criteria for the Accreditation Board of Psychoanalysis, Inc.

Admission Requirements

  • Completed application & Application Fee.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Original transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • Biographical Statement – Approximately 500 words.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation.
  • Minimum GPA 2.5.

Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis (ACAP)

The Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis, a psychoanalytic institute, offers a clinical training program leading to a Certificate in modern psychoanalysis, and an applied psychoanalytic Master's degree in collaboration with Centenary College New Jersey. ACAP, through its associated treatment service, the North Jersey Consultation Center, NJCC, also provides the community with mental health treatment for short or long-term therapy at affordable fees.
