Course Description

Psychotherapists demonstrate restraint to practice and allow the therapeutic process to unfold. What are the intrapsychic underpinnings that enable this position? This session explores the application of healthy and pathological generosity towards self and others within the treatment relationship. Self-care practices are examined within the hazards of the profession. What are the barriers and resources that can foster or hinder daily, healthful attention to ourselves? What is the meaning of self-sacrifice, greed, self-interest, selfishness and generosity in the treatment relationship? What dynamics are aroused by the needs of the analyst.
